Following reactions from analyst on the recent revelation by the world bank on states in Nigeria that lost out of the last batch of the States Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability Project (SIFTAS), the cyberspace was awash with diverse views.
The Cross River state governmeng has stated that the state will be benefiting from the next batch of the world bank SIFTAS project grant for 2020
SIFTAS which is a 3-year program designed by the World Bank to provide incentives for states to meet their financial goals has set criterias for qualification which include;
"Achievement of key Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs). These DLIs range from; revenue loss, online publication of ACCENTED budget of the state, sanity of the budget, improvement on revenue generation, implementation of the Biometrics Payroll System (BPS) using the Bank Verification Number, implementation of the Treasury Single Accounts (TSA), procurement loss of the state amongst other indicators."
Cross River state according to the Senior Special Assistant on Public communication to the goveenor, Eugene Upah have satisfied all eligiblility criteria for the next batch of the disbursement in August and will receive the grants in full.
The delay according to Upah was caused by "World Bank's inability to access the budget documents published online", and its not a fault of the state in anyway.
Upah further disclosed that, the World Bank was finally able to verify the budget on the 8th of March, 2020.
"Going forward, the Cross River State Ministry of Finance will hold quarterly Press Briefings to keep Cross Riverians abreasts with financial reports of the state." Upah said
