Workers in the state are in jubilant mood as the government paid them their February 2020 salary and January arrears.
The Akwa Ibom government made the move even when many other states are yet to commence same.
The Akwa Ibom state government has commenced the payment of the 30,000.00 minimum wage to its workforce.
The move is in line with the government’s promise of ensuring that the welfare of workers in the state is given priority.
A statement by the accountant-general of Akwa Ibom state, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien noted that the new minimum wage came into effect with the February 2020 salary with January arrears also paid.
“We applaud and celebrate the governor for the huge interest he has shown the workers of the state,”Pastor Andrew-Essien.
He noted that the payment of the new minimum wage by the governor would help ease the financial pressure on workers of the state.
He appealed to workers to reciprocate government’s gesture by being committed to their assigned duties in order to contribute positively to the growth of the state’s economy.
