Following the financial donation by the Cross River State governor, Prof Ben Ayade, to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, the body says it can now boast of a conference room and an administrative office for its meetings and other schedules.
In an exclusive interview at the Secretariat situated at Emmanuel Edem crescent, Federal Housing estate Calabar, chairman of CAN in the state, Emeritus Archbishop Joseph Edra Ukpo, expressed appreciation for the honour done the body, praying for God wisdom and strength for the governor.
"This gesture from Ayade is a relief to us as we will no longer hold meetings at borrowed locations but only at comfortable places, designated as ours," Ukpo said, adding that, "this will also boost the bond among Christians in the state."
The emeritus Archbishop who congratulated Ayade on his victory for a second tenure, enjoined the governor to continue to demonstrate Christianity and Catholicism in his way of governance.
Ukpo said, "do not forget your Creator who has made you a governor today. Continue to appreciate him by touching the lives of the less privileged as you have been doing while ensuring that your citizenry don't go to bed hungry."
Continuing, Ukpo charged Ayade to "govern like a Christian and with Christ as your primary focus in whatever action you take for the good of the people who gave you the mandate to lead them out of poverty, hunger and hard times."
The clergyman who intimated that CAN was ready for the actual commissioning of the Secretariat by the governor at an agreed time deemed fit by Ayade, also reminded him of his earlier promise for a land, to be used for CAN ecumenical centre.
Archbishop Ukpo further prayed for Governor Ayade, his deputy, Prof Ivara Esu and all others who were victorious at the just concluded general elections, urging them to always reflect on God in all they do and to serve humanity with love, perfection and utmost care, not minding differences in religion, tribe or language.
Commenting, SA Religious Matters, Rev Fr. Bob Etta, disclosed that CAN has never own a home of its own until the recent intervention by the governor, reasoning also that, the benevolence will straighten the relationship between the governor and the governed in the state.
