The Cross River Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party(SDP), Mr. Eyo Ekpo has revealed that governors and the federal government will not be complaining of paying minimum wage if they cut down on the cost of governance.
Ekpo who decried the affluent lifestyle of governor's and their cronies, say they have no moral justification to refuse the Nigeria Labor Congress(NLC) demands, as the civil servants themselves know how much is in the system and how much the politicians cart away.
The former Attorney-General of Cross River State made this known while speaking as a guest on 'talk dey mata', a pidgin English radio program on Correct FM, Calabar the Cross River State capital.
Ekpo who spoke in Pidgin stated that " governors will have no problem paying the minimum wage if they all reduce the cost of governance-cut down on the siren blaring cars, reduce corruption. They won't only pay the minimum wage, they will still have enough to embark on people oriented projects.
"The Governors have no morale justification for not wanting to pay the minimum wage as the workers who are members of the NLC are the once that sign out these cash to them. The NLC know there is money, and they know that political office holders keep these monies for themselves". He said.
Ekpo who called for the practice of true federalsim added that the minimum wage is for level 3 workers who are not themselves much and that no matter the amount proposed and approved, if managers of the economy do not do their job properly workers will still suffer.
