Sequel to the ongoing political wrangling in the build up to the August 8 Cross River State PDP congress, All seems not to be going well as Governor Ben Ayade, on one hand, is still pitched against most National Assembly members from the state, and founding members of the party. The National Assembly members and party stakeholders earlier kicked against the alleged handpicking of wards, chapter and state executives by the party through an alleged instruction from the governor.
In a recent development, the Governor met brickwall in court as Justice Elias Abua withdraws from Case filed by a faction of the PDP challenging the authenticity of Ward and Chapter Exco list released by National Working Committee.
In his words, "he is a man of Integrity and has worked hard to earn his reputation and wouldn't want to soil it for any reason"
He has directed the case back to Chief Justice of the Federation to be reassigned to another judge.
He made this decision known during a court sitting at Vacation hall, High Court complex, Calabar by 9am today.
The outcome of the congresses conducted into Wards and Chapter was suppose to bring the Governor together with his Assemblymen to find an end to this egotrip and reach a win – win solution for themselves and for the progress of our party while guarding against truncating the tremendous progress made as a party and State as a whole.
Therefore Party Stakeholders and National Assembly members in the spirit of true democracy, have opted for an open congress to avoid Turing the state party into a one-man show.
The August 8 congress will see party delegates across the 196 wards and 18 local government councils respectively voting in an Open Congress.
Although Governor Ayade is said to be still interested in installing Alphonsus Eba–Ogar from Yala council as the state chairman, the stakeholders and National Assembly members are said to be favourably disposed to a free and fair congress that will bring on board a credible party Chairman through a sincere democratic process.
