Project1000 Appeals to Political Parties to shun imposition of candidates and improve youth inclusiveness

PRESS RELEASE

                Project1000/P/025/019

We have watched with keen interest, the ongoing power play in the choice of those that would represent our people at both the chairmanship and councillorship elections and want to appeal to all political parties involved to shun imposition and improve youth inclusiveness. We also state that any attempt to subvert the will of the people by imposition of any anointed candidate(s) on them will be greeted with resistance through the power of the ballot. As such all parties should note that power rest in the hands of the electorate and together, we are far stronger.

We are by this press statement, stating that the Local Government; being the closest to the people  is for the people, and has to be governed by the people, through the people's choice. We need people who are not just popular but sound in mind and body, candidates with people oriented policies and concerns for the growth and development of Yala as a whole.

As Young Urban Professionals, we can no longer keep quiet and watch any individual or group cause more harm to our democracy, through any form of imposition on the rest of the people. We have extremely qualified youths with excellent pedigree who have indicated interest to run for offices and urge all the parties concerned to provide a level playing field for candidates to emerge.

We are making our position known because of the growing  negligence of young people's views, concerns, advancement and their future, as evident in very poor inclusion for growth through Mentorship, Experience building, sustainable Empowerment and Representation across all levels of governance.

We call on all young people across all groups, who have helped to raise awareness through social media to begin to engage beyond the media and take charge of their present life conditions as well as the future. Continuous mobilization and sensitization of the electorate is key to a sustainable future. The time is now set upon us to define  our future and the future of the unborn generation. Yala will be great and this must be seen by the kind of leaders we pick to represent us regardless of party affiliations and community of origin. We appeal that we all should rise above all "biases", "clannishness" & "bigotry" to sow the seed of freedom, for the Yala we love...

We enjoin all Political parties to embrace internal democracy to present to the world a paradigm shift from the days where anarchy reigned supreme.
It is time to join hands and hearts with us to  *APPEAL TO POLITICAL PARTIES TO SHUN IMPOSITION OF CANDIDATES, IMPROVE YOUTH INCLUSIVENESS AND PRACTICE INTERNAL DEMOCRACY*
Yala must be free and we are the change we desire to see.
