A nation that idolizes academic education so much that her school exams rank among the most difficult in the world. She has produced more professors than many nations. Certificate, either gotten by hook or crooks is the only licence to gainful employment.
So beautiful that we believe in educating ourselves at all costs but with no social Developmental evidence to match.
The population of graduates in Nigeria from her various degrees awarding institutions for the past 10 years is more than the the population of some entire countries in Africa and other part of the world but will be wretched in your spirit when you see what such small nations have achieved with their lives and education.
The use of Education in Nigeria appears to be for the sole purpose of providing for your household through being gainfully employed. We communities of highly educated individuals whose works and living has solved no single social problem. They write for journal publications and publish researchers only for promotional requirements. From one discipline to the other, our funding for education has produced Budget dependent circles of professionals. We have abused education and reduced its impact to the barest minimum.
The world is using education not just for making wages but they are using it to transform the world. We are only using it to quench hunger which on the long run is causing us large scale hunger.
Are we really profiting from education or simply surviving with it as individuals? This is a question to debate for serious national review.
So ugly that our so much celebrated education has fetched us the ability only to read, write, loot and wail. So sad.
Sometimes ago in Abuja, the earth shook with heavy vibrations so much more that people felt it in their homes. The only thing we saw few days later were letters telling stories of the gods.
And we have those who have spent all their lives reading and receiving awards everywhere in the world on such natural incidence...... None of them showed up on National TV shows to give detail analysis. Departments of government that should beyond talking, but provide video footages and photos plus satalite reports to educate citizens and school students were no where to be found.
