Addressing the gathering at Dutsi primary health centre, Governor Aminu Masari explained that the campaign will provide a wide range of health Care interventions in every ward of the 34 local government areas.
The Governor said the services would include immunization against childhood killer diseases, Deworming, vitamin A supplementation , screening for malnutrition, birth registration, HIV testing and counseling among pregnant women, child spacing and health education.
He expressed happiness that the event include lunching of a vaccine against meningitis, which is a very serious and life threatening disease.
The good thing about the vaccine, he said from now at nine months, a child will have one shot to gain immunity.
Alhaji Aminu Masari called on health Care workers, traditional leaders, religious preachers and opinion moulders to pass the message for eligible children not to miss the immunization.
The Governor used the occasion to restate the commitment and focus on strengthening as well as repositioning the health sector to meet the yearnings of citizens of the state.
Masari also spoke at length on the achievements of the APC administration towards revamping the health care in the state.
He particularly mention the upgrading and renovation of General Hospitals at katsina, Daura, Funtua, Malumfashi, Dutsinma,Baure, kankiya and Musawa.
Governor Masari explained that the state government would ensure the completion of the projects and providing the needed equipment and necessary working materials in these hospitals.
In the 2019 budget, he said adequate provision had been made for the rehabilitation and upgrading of one primary health care center per ward for the provision of the needed healthcare services at the grassroots level.
Alhaji Aminu Masari announced that he assented to the amended law establishing the state primary healthcare development agency aimed at bringing the entire primary care under one roof, adding that the new law will improve coordination, and enhance healthcare service delivery in the state.
He said, a law for the establishment of the state contributory healthcare Agency has also been signed into law, stressing that the Law would look at avenues and come up with Programmes through contributory mechanism to avail the people of katsina with subsidized and affordable healthcare packages in addition to the free services provided by the government.
He said adequate provision had also been made for the purchase of drugs under its drugs revolving fund scheme.
In a remark, the permanent secretary in the state ministry of health, Dr Mustapha Kabir said the one week campaign would provide integrated high impact interventions to children under five years and women at child bearing age.
Dr Mustapha Kabir revealed that adequate arrangements have been made to have a successful week campaign in the state.
Such effort, he said include training and orientation of staff which had been carried out, drugs distributed and other consumables in the 34 local government areas and house to house mobilisation as well as town criers announcements done in all the nook and crannies of the state.
The permanent secretary also said they are targeting two million children under five years and over 400,000 women who will benefit from the campaign.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of State primary healthcare development agency, Dr Shamsuddeen Yahaya spoke extensively on the one week campaign that would be carried out in 1083 posts, consisting of 3 health facilities in the 361 wards of the state.
There were Goodwill messages from World Health Organization-WHO, UNICEF and Affinate CDC, the representative of the federal ministry of health, the representative of the Emirs of katsina and Daura among others.
Highlight of the event was the flagg off of the campaign by Governor Aminu Bello Masari in company of dignitaries at the occasion.
Governor Aminu Masari also flagged off the Men- A introduction in to routine immunization scheduled to hold between 26th to 30th of August,2019.
