The notice of voice of Yala have been drawn to the recent resolution of AL-QALAM UNIVERSITY, KATSINA to restrict an online campus media outfit AUK Media.
The decision was contained in a circular signed by the Head of the varsity's Public Affairs Unit, Mr Atiku A, Atiku.
From information gathered so far through our investigation, the media out which was established by Faruq Gagarawa in 2015 while he was still a student of the institution have been operating via" 20 Whatsapp groups" which have been managed by officials of the outfit.
The reasons given by the institution's public Affairs Unit as contained in the he circular that the initial founder (faruq) has transformed the organisation to a public enterprise isn't explicit enough.
Further investigation proved that, the institution has been trying to shut the media outlet from posting activities pertaining the school. so far, they've not violated any of the laid down rules of the institution pertaining the practice of campus journalism.
As a media outlet, we frown at this move by the institution as fair hearing wasn't observed and we are by this publication drawing the attention of concerned individuals and organizations to rise and speak against the increasing hostility against press freedom and media outlets.
