Press Release by The Guru Foundation on Tuesday 26th June, 2019 on the demise of Mr Michael by the DOPT

The Guru Foundation sympathizes   with the family of Mr Michael, a trader in Calabar, the capital city of Cross River State.

Late Mr Michael lost his life on Friday 21st June 2019 due to an unresolved dispute between him and the Department of Public Transportation (DOPT) Calabar.

This is appalling because Mr Michael, the bread winner of a family of four and a pregnant wife met his untimely death as he went out for his daily business as other days, only to meet his death and never returned.

We regret in totality, the inhumane and unethical treatment the DOPT meted on Mr Michael which resulted in his untimely and unprecedented demise.

This is a call to the government and all necessary authorities to look into this matter squarely and ensure that those officials involved are duly brought to book. It is regrettably unfortunate that no amount of money can be compared to the life that was lost but we call on the Government to make necessary compensations to assist the bereaved family.

 The responsibility of getting justice for Late Mr Michael and family lies on us all as a society. We call on members of the society to maintain peace and order while carrying out their civic duties and other businesses!
