Bank incur loss as 4 ATMs explode in Calabar

In what came as a surprise to residents of calabar On Saturday, 15th of June, 2019, it was a money rain as 4 Automated Teller Machines, (ATMs) exploded.

According to PARADISE NEWS, the incident occurred at the late hours of the morning at about 10am when residents/students went to withdraw money from the ATM belonging to the United Bank of Africa, UBA by the University of Calabar, UNICAL Main Gate.

According to an eyewitness who gave his name of Samuel Ekpo, the incident happened immediately the Bank officials loaded money into the machines and left.

He said, “We were in queue waiting to withdraw money from the ATM, although there was no cash in most of the machines and immediately we saw officials with a bullion van entering the back, hope was restored, so we waited.

“At the expense of waiting and then trying to withdraw, the ATM Machines, about 4 of them catches fire and exploded. People started running helter-skelter, thinking it was bomb – even the security patrol had to move their vehicle with speed.

“The incident happened when the bankers that loaded the money had left, about 30 minutes or so. No one was injured though, as we were standing far away – only that the bank will incur a lot of loss as money was burnt and was raining”, Ekpo said.
