In its quest to deepen the fight against corruption, the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Monday, took its sensitisation campaign to the University of Calabar, (UNICAL), and urged students to desist from any insidious act capable of truncating their future.
This is even as the anti-graft body attributed dishonesty, lack of integrity, sexual harassment inducement, cultism and nepotism, to the high rate indiscipline amongst students.
Its Akwa Ibom State Commissioner, Sola Shodipe, who spoke while inaugurating the Students' Anti Corruption Vanguard (SUAV), in Calabar, enjoined them to diligently carry out their work without craving for temporary pecuniary benefits.
According to him, the exercise, "is intended to directly involve students of UNICAL in the fight against corruption. It is too easy to condemn leaders but we want to provide a structure that is wholly owned and controlled by students with minimal supervision."
He, also, averred that the initiative would provide a window of opportunity for active participation in the fight against corruption in order to return sanity in the country.
"Corruption has become a major cankerworm in our society we need to tackle it to return the country to some kind of sanity."
On choosing UNICAL, Shodipo explained that, "it is to let the university community become aware of its existence especially the management so as to create all that is required to the team."
Meanwhile, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Prof Uche Amalu, commended the efforts of the Vice Chancellor for consistently waging a war against corruption by flushing out corrupt elements.
Amalu said: "The so called corruption prone staff are always around because we know that our Vice Chancellor, Zana Akpagu, has been at the forefront of Anti Corruption fight and supportive of the Independent Corruption and Transparency Unit to carry the university along."
On his part, President of SUAV, Elebor Philips who appreciated ICPC, management and students, for responsibility heaped on him, reiterated his team's commitment in ensuring that, "corruption is forced out of the university".
