PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, KATSINA STATE COMMAND, CP SANUSI BUBA psc, HELD ON MONDAY 20/05/2019
Good afternoon Gentlemen of the Press. I am delighted to welcome you to Katsina state Police Command Headquarters, to update you with the review of achievements of “Operation Puff Adder” since its inauguration on 10/04/2019 by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu Abubakar, NPM, mni.
You will recall that, during the inauguration program the IGP mandated the operation to identify, engage and arrest suspected bandits and recover their operational weapons.
The operation which comprises IGP Special Task Forces, SARS Patrol Teams, Counter Terrorism Units (CTU), and Police Mobile Force (PMF) conducted several sting operations at various locations in the state hitting at the criminal Danes and hideouts of suspected bandits.
The teams succeeded in arresting several criminal elements and recovered large cache of arms and ammunition, their operational motorcycles, food items, jerricans loaded with fuel and other incriminating exhibits.
2. A total of 70 kidnap suspects were arrested during the period under review by the operation. In addition, operatives of the “Operation Puff Adder” recovered the following arms and ammunition and other incriminating exhibits:
AK 47 rifles - 43
Light Assault Rifles (LAR) - 2
Travor 27 Rifle - 1
English Pistols - 2
Pump Action Rifles - 3
Locally made Pistols - 7
Dane Guns - 19
7.62mm ammunition - 1,500
Cartridges - 200
Motor Vehicles - 5
Tricycle - 1
Motorcycles - 44
25 litres Jericans loaded with petrol - 33
5 bags of food items and one 25 litre Jerican of palm oil.
2 axes and 4 Knives.
3. It is worthy to mention among other successes recorded the smashing of notorious syndicate of kidnap syndicate that kidnapped Hajia Hauwa Yusuf, ‘m’ aged 80yrs of Kofar-Kaura Layout, Katsina, the mother-in-law of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Katsina state, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, CFR on the 08/03/2019. Those arrested were:
Abdullahi M. Sani alias “KUBI”, ‘m’, aged 23yrs of Sokoto Rima Quarters, Katsina.
Abubakar Dani alias “DAN-BOSE”, ‘m’ aged 25yrs of Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters, Katsina.
Rabe Hamza alias “TANKABAJE”, ‘m’ aged 30yrs of Nasarawa-Bugaje, Jibia LGA of Katsina state
Marwana Gide, ‘m’, aged 25yrs of Yar-Maiwa village, Batsari LGA of Katsina state.
The last suspect (h) Abdulhakim Bishir, alias “DANRUMA” aged 22yrs, of Sabuwar Unguwa Quarters, Katsina, who has been on the run was arrested by the police on Tuesday 14/05/2019 in Kano state. Suspects confessed to the crime and are assisting the police in their investigation.
4. The tremendous achievements recorded by the Command within the last few days are in line with the objectives and core mandate of “Operation Puff Adder” as the initiative of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu Abubakar, NPM, mni, aimed at bringing to an end the menace of cattle rustling, armed robbery, kidnapping and banditry in Katsina state. These massive achievements are indicative of successes recorded in the ongoing onslaught against banditry and other heinous crimes in the state.
5. I am hereby appealing to members of the general public to support and partner with the Nigeria Police Force by providing credible information that will lead to the arrest of suspected persons in connection with heinous crimes. I also wish to warn all persons within the communities aiding the bandits either by way of information or provision of logistics, like fuel and food items to desist from such unwholesome practice or be prepared to face the consequences.
