The Senior special Adviser to the President on persecution, Chief Obono Obla has come under severe public scrutiny for his negative role and illegitimacy to have a stake in the anti corruption fight of the ruling APC.
During a Live Channels TV program on the 17-05-2019, One of the panelist Mr Ilemona Onoja a member of the PDP while reacting to a question by the moderator stated that the ruling APC has during the cause of its first tenure tried to upress Nigerians Freedom of speech and expression amongst other things.
While reacting to a question, he stated an instance where Chief Obono Obla who has a case of certificate forgery is been allowed by Mr President to sit as the Chairman of the Special Investigation Panel on the Recovery of Public Property a portfolio which has allowed him the privilege to meddle into the case of certificate forgery against Senator Adeleke of the PDP.
Onoja also took a swipe at Buhari's Minister for information for his comments against the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, he stated that Mr Lai Mohammad needed to go back and study the constitutional provisions as regards the freedom of speech.
The representative of the APC, Mr Sanusi Musa while reacting to the comments made by Onoja accused the PDP of increasing insecurity in the country through its mismanagement of public funds especially in the build up to the 2015 general elections where money meant for purchase of security gadgets were diverted into private accounts.
Obla is currently the SSA to the President on Prosecution under the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel (SPIP) for the Recovery of Public Property, he was also nominated by the president in 2016 as one of the non-elective commissioners of NCC to occupy the slot of South South geopolitical zone a position which Cross River State lost due to the Senate rejection of Obla.
It however cannot be ascertained the level of Obla's contribution to the growth of Nigeria through his office as many have accused him of incompetence and eligibility to occupy the above stated positions, this can not be un-linked to his Certificate forgery case, a case which has kept him continuously under public backlash.
News has it that Mr Obla is seriously galvanising for a ministerial appointment in the next cabinet.
