Properties worth millions of Naira gutted by fire in Calabar

Properties worth millions of Naira have been razed down during a fire outbreak in Calabar South local government area of Cross River State.

Reports filled by CALABAR REPORTERS shows that the inferno which occurred in the morning at about 2:30AM at Eyo Edem Street destroyed shops, homes and other commercial valuables.

Though the cause of fire outbreak is unknown, but the the Caretaker, Mr. Mbo Bassey, confirmed that over 6 houses and 4 shops were razed down.

Bassey said, “Although there was no light (electricity) yesterday night when the shops were closing, but I want to strongly believe that one of the tailoring shops or the barbing saloon had left an electrical appliance(s) on and went home, which ignited the fire when the power was later restored early hours of this morning.”

Reporter further has it that the State Fire Service were on ground to try and stop the inferno from causing further damages to other properties in the area.

A resident and a victim who identified himself as Moses Enobong, said, “We contacted the State Fire Service, and they responded quickly but nothing much was done due to epileptic equipment they were using.”

Enobong called on the Government to equip the Fire Agency with functional fire-fighting tools that will aid in delivering better services to the citizenry in future events.

At the time of filing this report, no casualties or injuries were recorded, only properties were destroyed as none of the occupants were able to pick even a pin from the burnt building.
