Izzi/Ukelle: Ebonyi State governor suspends Auditor General, monarch, others

Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Dave Umahi, yesterday suspended indefinitely the state’s Auditor- General, Mr. Innocent Nweda, from workplace over the lingering disaster between the people of Igbeagu in Izzi Local Government Area of the state and their neighbouring residents in Ukele, Cross River State.

​The two neighbouring communities have been at conflict with many killed and properties destroyed. Last year, over 20 individuals have been killed with over 200 homes burnt forcing the National Boundary Commission(NBC) and Minister of Interior to go to the 2 communities to search out lasting resolution to the disaster however to no avail. Last week, a person in Igbeagu neighborhood was beheaded with three others killed by warlords.

 Umahi, who was visibly indignant over the lingering disaster between the communities, summoned stakeholders from Igbeagu communityover newest communal disaster within the state and suspended main stakeholders from the world together with the state Auditor- General, Nweda, conventional ruler of the Igbeagu neighborhood, Chief Ogbonnaya Ukwa and different stakeholders from the world. 

 The governor additionally suspended different elected and appointed workplace holders from Igbeagu neighborhood due to the disaster.

The state’s Commissioner for Border, Peace and Internal Security, Dr Kenneth Ugbala, introduced the suspension of the officers from Igbeagu neighborhood, whereas addressing journalists, after the governor’s assembly with people from Igbeagu neighborhood, concerned in a boundary dispute with Ukele neighborhood in Cross River State. He stated:

 “The affected persons include the Auditor-General of the state, Mr. Innocent Nwida, Mr Cletus Nwakpu, Project Coordinator of the FADAMA 3 programme and His Royal Highness, Ogbonnaya Ukwa, among other political office holders.”
