Nigeria's Super Eagle Seeded with tough opponents ahead of 2019 NATIONS CUP

Super Eagles of Nigeria have been seeded in Pot 2 ahead of the official draw ceremony of the Total Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019.

A further breakdown of the draw ceremony billed for Friday, April 12 in Cairo, Egypt revealed that five other countries - Morocco, Congo DR, Guinea, Mali and Algeria are in Pot 2 with Nigeria and will not face one another in the group stage of the 2019 AFCON.


However, the other remaining 16 countries are also seeded in the remaining three pots, from which the 24 teams will be drawn into six groups of four teams each.

After the first round of matches, the top two countries in each group, along with the best four third-placed nations will progress to the knockout phase; the round of 16.

In the knockout rounds, extra-time and penalty shoot-out may be required to decide a winner if necessary.

The last-16 round will feature 16 countries and the winners will qualify for the quarter-finals.

Eight countries will contest the quarter-finals and the winners will head to the semi-final.

Four countries will square up for the semi-finals and the winners will progress to the July 19 final while the losers square up for third place match.



Gernot Rohr's men went into their last qualifiers game against  Seychelles with great confidence and relaxed minds after winning the first leg 3-0 away and coupled with the fact that Nigeria had already qualified for 2019 AFCON.

 Nigeria started the match impressively with Arsenal striker Alex Iwobi winning a free-kick for the Super Eagles in the 5th minute, but Ahmed Musa was unable to connect with it. Seychelles had a great chance for them to have taken the lead in the 9th minute when Jude setup Karl, but goalkeeper Francis Uzoho made a nice save.
