DESPERATE POLITICIANS SHOULD LEAVE CROSS RIVER ALONE by Daniel Riwo

The game of politics especially within the geographical hemisphere of Cross River State has been peaceful for years as compared to some states in the country, from inception of the democratic process in 1999 which saw the emergence of H.E Gov Donald. Duke which was one of the most keenly contested election in the state till the  2015 elections, the state has been scared high.

A quick leap into the actions playing out in the state like the destruction of billboards across the state and some unguarded utterances by key figures in the political picture in the state,  these acts has increased the tension in the state especially in the state capital where reprisal attacks have been carried out against the candidate of the PDP Gov Ben Shade after a billboard of the candidate of the APC, Sen John Owan Enoh was removed by the Signage Agency in the state an act which the agency stated was due to the delay in compliance to a fine against the APC's candidate for illegal mounting of campaign materials across the state.

The DG of the Cross River State Signage and Advertisement Agency Mr Stanley Nsemo had in a statement released by him before his agency swung into action had stated categorically that the billboards where mounted in violation of the state laws but the APC has said that it has paid off all necessary charges to the agency.

However this is less than 40 days to the general elections and if this act is not curtailed as soon as possible, it is a pointer to violence across the state, every party involved in the destruction of billboards across the state should in the interest of the security of lives and properties desist from such act henceforth.

Candidates of other political parties across the state vying for various portfolios has had their fair share of the violence including the gubernatorial candidate of the SDP, Barr Eyo Ekpo,  in the Northern part of the state also reports has surfaced that campaign materials of the Yala 1 state constituency candidate of the SDP, Comr Michael Sunday Emaluji were destroyed also those of the candidate of YPP for the Ogoja/Yala Federal constituency Mr ogar Emmanuel OKo has also been destroyed during the cause of the week.

Cross River is known to be one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria and this feat shouldn't be twarted by some desperate group of individuals.

Let's build a better Cross River together
