Have you ever wondered how children in Orphanages are being catered for? Have you ever wondered if the government even at least support the people or organization who care for these children? Well, it is said that a child is not only trained by his/her parent, but the entire community is responsible for taking care of a child irrespective of race, tribe, skin color or religion. Whoever you are and whatever you do, just make sure Love is your watch word, it doesn't cost much just open up your heart and be willing to help someone.
On the 21st of December 2018, in Calabar Cross River State, Volunteers set out to reach out to Orphans in the City of Calabar.
The event is a yearly program called (#Dec2Rem) December To Remember which is carried out across different countries in Africa. This year, over 10 states in Nigeria joined the program which set out to reach over 1million orphans across Africa.
In Calabar, Cross River State, volunteers visited the Uwanse Motherless Babies Home located at Uwanse and the Blessed Hope and Faith Foster Family located at Goldie Street, Calabar which currently has about 35 children and the home is run by a 95years old woman who has been taking care of these children over the years.
Source (Name withheld) informed volunteers that they are almost through with completing a centre for the children where aside having formal education, they will also learn a skill. The source appreciated and encouraged volunteers not to come only in the month of December, but anytime as the children will be glad to have people around them.
The event rolled up with dancing and singing competition, talent, Bible quiz Competition, HIV and Malaria Test, Nutritional Assessment, Personal Hygiene Education, WASH(Water And Sanitation Hygiene), skill Acquisition and a volunteer celebrated her birthday with the children. The time spent with the children was priceless, the laughter and joy shared was genuine and the impact made will surely be remembered.
We are glad we could reach out
We are glad we could impact lives
December will indeed be Remembered.
