Sen Rose Oko mourns younger brother, Chief John Odey's demise

Following the death of former Minister of Environment and also Information and Comm, Chief John Odey, the Senator Representing Cross River North Senatorial District, Dr Rose Oko, Sunday, expressed shock and grief over his demise.

Oko who was part of the party’s convention and presidential primary in Port Harcourt at the weekend, described the news as devastating as she mourned with heavy heart.

She said: “I am devastated over the death of my younger brother, John Ogar Odey, after I received the heartbreaking news. I am really down with grief. The late Odey has been a support I cannot describe. 

“He has been a source of inspiration and pillar to my endeavours. I am not myself at all. It is so devastating because I remember all we discussed on personal issues and for our good people in our senatorial district, but today death unannounced snatched him away.”

"I am pained and in utter shock. His death is a huge loss to the entire Yala Nation, Cross River State and indeed Nigeria. He will be greatly missed."

Oko and the late Odey hails from the same community in Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State and Senatorial district, and have been long time relations who have been on the same political struggles and ideologies under the platform of the PDP.

Odey’s demise was announced Sunday morning after he was flown out of the country for medical attention for a cancer-related ailment in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
