In an environment filled with gender inequality and sentimental judgements especially in the political terrain, one would easily count the total number of active women in the polity of the day and year to year dealings in the system, in this hemisphere standing out is a rare feature.
Senator Rose Okoji Oko who was born on this day, September 27 in 1956 to Mr & Mrs Thomas Ojeka from Okpoma in yala Local government area, has judiciously transverse the landscape of the educational sector, civil service, and public service, contributing maximally to the growth of the society most especially in the educational sector.
Senator Rose Oko who is the shinning light of Cross River state and the pride of Yala has in the last 20 years or so of her active participation in politics and public service aided the establishment of several schools in Cross River state one of which is the only Cross River state government owned boarding school till date, "Government secondary school" (Popular known as Model secondary school Okpoma), this citadel of learning has produced some of the greatest minds in the state and only had few competition especially around 1994, a school which still seats amongst the league of best schools in the state.
For a woman who have given majority of her life to public service, it will be nothing short of the expected for the entire state and country at large to give her a standing ovation and for the Federal government of Nigeria to honour her with a national honour.
Distinguished senator Rose Oko's name can be found in every single Campus of the state owned university (Cross River University Of Technology) attached to a project, in her selfless nature she considers greatly the future leaders and generation hence her commitment to educational development in the state, her many projects are not limited to the state university campuses as some can also be found at the Federal College of education, Obudu, College of education Akamkpa etc.
Her intervention projects over the years has cut across almost every political ward in Cross River senatorial district with Over 200 schools both primary and secondary benefiting, also she has carried out health intervention programs which about 800 persons were diagnosed and given free eye glasses, senator Rose Oko also has carried out series of empowerment program with the latest which held at Ogoja township stadium, Igoli where over 78 motorcycles, 38 tricycles, agricultural processing machines, cars and other items were given out to constituents not forgetting the cash gift to constituents in all the wards in the Northern senatorial district.
Senator Rose Oko has facilitated job placements for her constituents in different federal agencies like the Fire service, Internal Revenue service, Lecturing jobs in Universities, Nigeria Air force, Nigeria Army, and Nigeria Navy.
This angel in human form needs to be celebrated on this special occasion hence my writing this piece to express my gratitude to a selfless leader, Mentor, mother, motivator, teacher, linguist and leader.
I want to sincerely say a very happy birthday to my distinguish senator and I pray that more blessings and successes shall locate you even as you forge ahead in your political engagement by seeking reelection to the senate in 2019, to continue your good works, may God keep you for us and grant you victory in the pools, and may he continue to grant you fabulous health.
