Sir Alex Ferguson's comments about Paul Pogba in 2012 make even more sense now
Paul Pogba leaving Manchester United by next summer seems inevitable after his well-publicised bust-up with Jose Mourinho this week.
His comments about Mourinho's negative tactics after the draw to Wolves last weekend sparked the fire, with the Frenchman also reportedly telling his manager he wants to join Barcelona.
That gave Mourinho no choice but to demote Pogba as United's vice captain and he announced the decision in front of the players.
Pogba then didn't feature against Derby County in the Carabao Cup - which United lost on penalties - and endured a frosty exchange with Mourinho in training the following morning.
Apparently a video posted on Instagram by Pogba showing him and Andreas Pereira laughing during the Derby game frustrated United's boss.
Despite all this, Mourinho recently insisted there is no problem between him and his £89m signing from two years ago.
"The only truth is that I made the decision for him not to be second captain any more but there is no fallout, no problem," said the Portuguese.
POGBA WANTS OUT
"I am the manager I can make these decisions. No fallout at all, no problem at all, just a decision that I don't have to explain."
If it's true that Pogba told Mourinho he wants to leave for Barcelona then it's no wonder he was stripped of the vice captaincy.
And it would also show that Sir Alex Ferguson was right about the 25-year-old all along.
Back in 2012, a 19-year-old Pogba joined Juventus from United for just £800,000 and the manner of his exit infuriated Fergie.
The 76-year-old accused Pogba of showing no respect and claimed he had joined Juve long before the move actually went through, which is what seems to be happening now with Barcelona.
Sir said "Pogba signed for Juventus a long time ago as far as we're aware," said Sir Alex six years ago. "It's a bit disappointing because I don't think he showed us any respect at all"
"To be honest, if they carry on that way, I'm quite happy that he's away - from me, anyway."
History appears to be repeating itself with Pogba now trying to force a big-money move to Barca, just like he did with Juventus.
Perhaps United would be wise to ship him in January after all.
